Thee tone of this image is interesting. Although we the theme is an awakening, the feeling of this image is rather dark and somewhat in contrast to what we think of when we think of "awakening", which some people relate to brilliance. Metaphorically, for instance, to be awake is to see the light.
However, I think this piece is meant to perhaps represent the more literal sense of awakening. The blurred background, the messy hair, the rather zombie like appearance. In this work, awakening is not about brilliance, or immediate revelation. It is about the disorder, the disorientation and uncertainty that one must often face in order to finally be awake.
