I am a self-taught artist currently living in Ontario, Canada. The type of art that I enjoy doing the most is the kind of art where I can let my imagination run wild. I especially like creating new and interesting characters. In this regard I am heavily inspired by Science Fiction themes which run throughout most of my work. On occasion, I also enjoy doing traditional portraiture and still life drawings. I work mainly with graphite pencil, pen and coloured pencil drawings ...with a little digital thrown in.

This page is where I post both my best works and those that I am still uncertain about. In that spirit, I am always looking for comments to help me improve my art.

The nativity by DreamyNaria
This depiction of the birth of Christ is well done. The color is quite stunning. The picture seems a bit compressed though. Perhaps this was the intent, to convey a sense of "crowding" because the birth of Christ attracts attention. In that is the case, then than it works well. The donkey is also a bit difficult to see against the background, but this doesn't necessarily take away from what is otherwise a nice composition.

One issue I have with this depiction, which has less to do specifically with your drawing technique, but with depictions of Christ and biblical figures in the west generally, is the tendency to depict these figures as "white." Jesus and his family, as well as his followers, all lived in the middle east. They would not have been white. These kinds of depiction are not only a-historical, but also contribute to a lack of understanding of the cultural and geo-political context under which the bible was written.

I only mention this last point because the idea of Jesus and other biblical figures being white is so ingrained in western society that we take the idea for granted and it never occurs to use that maybe that depiction is wrong.
Show me some Christmas themed art. Any medium. Max 3 thumbs.
It seems that many of us on DA are in the pursuit of the much coveted "comment" for our work, even using thumbshare forums as comment "exchanges." Yet, there is also great value in receiving very insightful, in-depth comments that reflect a genuine interest in your work, even though these may be few and far between.

Be it resolved that the pursuit of potentially short and superficial comments, though many, is less meaningful than receiving in-depth feedback and comments, regardless how infrequent that feedback might be.

Let me hear your arguments on the subject.Ninja meditate before battle...

Xmas village 2
Not really art. I assembled my x-mas village, took some pictures and added in some snowflakes to set the mood.

Hello Watchers,

I am a judge in a context hosted by Felizias and we are still looking for contestants (only 2 weeks left!!). Here is a description of the contest.

"The 70s were a wild, hippie-filled time, Michael Jackson and Madonna set the tone in the 80s while wonderfull movies like Forrest Gump, The Sixth Sense, Mrs Doubtfire (bless you, my captian), Tatanic and many more dominated the 90s followed by great polical change (the first black president of the US, the first woman as Germanys Federal Chancellor, e.g.) in the 2000s.

So many things are happening in the world. So many things to leave a mark (good, bad or neutral) on you as time passes.

Now my question is: What defines your generation? Was it a certain couples of year, only one event or the overall "feel"? :) (Smile)

Put your impressions down on your paper or your screen or whatever you can hold long enough to show to others. Giggle

For me inspiration is just something that happens and it isn't usually attributable to any one thing. However, there are some things that influence my art such as my interest in Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

Smartest? I hope not. It wouldn't say a whole lot about the caliber of people on DA if I'm setting the bar. ;)
